- Gum disease is also known as periodontal disease. The symptoms for this could be cases of ongoing bad breath, redness or swelling in the gums, gums which bleed, or even receding gum line and teeth which have become loose in their sockets. If gingivitis or the early stages of gum disease is not taken care of, it can lead to periodontal or the advanced stage of this ailment. Usually, the reason behind gum disease is lack of good and basic oral hygiene habits. If these are taken care of, then there is no reason to fear this disease in most events.
- Plaque buildup along and even under the gum line is the basic cause of gum disease. Even reasons like smoking, hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, lack of good nutrition, medical treatments of a certain kind, diabetes and related maladies can result in gingivitis and even periodontal disease. If afflicted with pain or any sensation of discomfort, try rinsing your mouth with warm water into which a teaspoon or so or salt has been added.
- Another home remedy for this ailment is the use of hydrogen peroxide. This works like a very strong antibacterial agent which does away with germs and wards off gum infections. Also, it helps to make your set of teeth somewhat whiter and brighter. One should be sure to make use of about three percent hydrogen peroxide solution for this ailment. Do not go in for the concentrated versions.
- Try mixing equal quantities of hydrogen peroxide with water. Rinse the mouth with this and then bring it out. Do this sometimes a week till you get satisfactory results.
- One can also go in for a paste of clove oil into which some hydrogen peroxide has been added. Try smearing this on and let it stay in place for a few seconds. After this, spit it out and try repeating this procedure as and when it is required to be done. Also, one can use aloe vera to deal with gum disease. For this, try massaging the gums with fresh aloe vera gel. Leave it on for about 30 minutes and then rinse it off with warm or even with cold water. Try doing this many times during the day for most effective results.
- Cranberry juice, too, is ideal for warding off periodontal disease. This is due to its high vitamin C content. The best way to deal with the situation is to drink about tablespoons of cranberry juice each day to help prevention of accumulation of bacteria which lead to periodontal disease. Also, one can eat fruits and vegetables which are rich in vitamin C to be able to make one self-resilient enough from periodontal disease.
- One can swish around one tablespoon of sesame oil in the mouth and over and above the teeth. Try doing it for a few minutes and see the results for yourself.
